Fleming Contributes to High-Level Discussions on Strengthening ERC Research in Greece
On 20 October 2026, Dr. Georgios Skretas, Acting Director and Chairman of the Board of the Biomedical Sciences Research Center “Alexander Fleming” and ERC Grantee, participated in the high-level event “Strengthening Greece’s Participation in the ERC”, held at the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens during the official visit of Professor Maria Leptin, President of the European Research Council (ERC).
The event brought together ERC representatives, leading researchers, and national stakeholders to discuss scientific excellence, research funding, and strategies to strengthen Greece’s participation in ERC programs.
Dr. Skretas also contributed to a strategic working lunch, during which participants developed recommendations for strengthening Greece’s research ecosystem and supporting frontier research. These recommendations were subsequently presented to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis by Professor Leptin and Deputy Minister of Development for Research and Innovation Stavros Kalafatis during a meeting later that day.
