MASSTRUCT at Researchers’ Night in Greece 2026
The MASSTRUCT team successfully participated in European Researchers’ Night 2026 at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), bringing the world of structural mass spectrometry closer to the public, with a special focus on children and young people.
We presented our work on mass spectrometry-based approaches to study membrane protein structure and dynamics, explaining its importance on drug discovery. . Visitors also explored a real-life application of mass spectrometry through a scientific case study.
To make protein science interactive and accessible, we prepared three hands-on activities:
🧬 Label Your Protein – discovering how proteins can be labelled and studied.
🔬 Break It Down – Build Your Own Mass Spectrum – exploring protein fragmentation and building a simplified mass spectrum from the resulting lego blocks fragments.
🏃 The Time-of-Flight (TOF) Race – using balls of different sizes to demonstrate the principle behind time-of-flight mass spectrometry.
It was a great opportunity to share our research, engage with the public and inspire the next generation of scientists. We thank everyone who visited the MASSTRUCT team and took part in our activities! 🔬🧬
