The NEUR protein conserved from invertebrates to mammals thought to be primarily involved in early developmental decisions has now been linked to memory formation in mature neurons. Surprisingly, elevation of the protein in these neurons results in enhanced long term-memory formation making this gene a bona fide memory enhancer. Abstract
