Postdoctoral position – Bioinformatics: Kollias lab (14/6/2011)

A position for a postdoctoral scientist in Bioinformatics/Systems Biology is immediately available in the lab of Dr. George Kollias at BSRC Fleming in the context of a funded European collaborative project.

The successful candidate will be a member of a highly interactive research group that operates across immunology, molecular biology, systems biology and animal modeling. The candidate will be leading a project that aims at the analysis, integration, comparison and modeling of treatment response, -omics data from animal models of Rheumatoid Arthritis and at aligning mouse and human data to identify novel targets and translational biomarkers. The deliverables of the project will include an integration platform that will combine both experimental results with knowledge available in databases or the literature.

Candidates should have a PhD degree in Bioinformatics/Computational biology or related fields and proven expertise in managing complex data from high throughput technologies (such as deep sequencing and microarray data). Excellent programming skills, including web development, database design (mysql) and statistical data analysis experience, are essential. Knowledge of scripting or object oriented programming languages will be considered an asset.

Candidates must be highly motivated and able to work independently. They should have excellent analytical, as well as oral and written communication skills and must be able to interact closely and productively with experimentalists from different disciplines such as biologists and immunologists.
