Fleming has proven expertise and excellence in the area of bioinformatics. The majority of the labs and the genomic facility perform next-generation sequencing (NGS) experiments and their analysis. Analysis of RNAseq and whole exome sequencing (WES) experiments are conducted according the the 'gold-standards' prescribed by the 1000 genome project and are continuously refined. Among the BioIT developments are:

  •   A sensitive short read aligner (MiMapper) for microRNA-Seq data as described in "Identification of microRNA-221/222 and microRNA-323-3p association with rheumatoid arthritis via predictions using the human tumour necrosis factor transgenic mouse model." Ann Rheum Dis. 2012 Oct;71(10):1716-23.
  •   An in-house experiment management system that integrates a web interface to all experimental and analysis data with the user session system of the UCSC genome browser. Using our local installation of the genome browser, all experimentations have web access both to the visualization tracks and all additional data.
  •   The BioIT facility continuously participates in the development of a leading collection of tools for the analysis of microRNAs, the DIANA suite visited more than 7.000 times per month.
