Marie Curie program openings (2004-11-23)

European flag The Biomedical Sciences Research Centre "Alexander Fleming", situated in Vari, just south of Athens, is seeking to fill three post-doctoral post funded through a Marie Curie Transfer of Knowledge Grant. The Centre is an independent institution housed in an excellent, well-equipped building. An international atmosphere is strongly encouraged and the Centre makes its facilities available for training of both Greek and international graduate students and post-doctoral scientists.

Immediately, we seek to employ a fellow with a strong background in Molecular Biology, preferably with some background or interest in Bioinformatics to lead a Neurogenomics project aimed at identification of genes involved in mid-term and long-term memory formation in Drosophila and transcriptional profiling of particular neuronal populations. The fellow will benefit from collaborations with world class Bioinformatics laboratories and the strong Drosophila system whose sequenced genome and excellent molecular and classical genetics and availability of mutants provides a platform to rapidly exploit functionally the results of the project.

In early 2005 we will seek to employ a fellow with expertise in Confocal Biology and Imaging to develop techniques and protocols suitable for investigations of acute signal-dependent dynamics of protein distribution and complex formation in response to extracellular signals in live cells in culture and signalling protein dynamics in living neurons in semi-intact preparations. The fellow will be expected to have expertise in and elaborate on time-lapse image acquisition and four-dimensional imaging, optimization of imaging tools and good understanding of specific equipment and software capabilities.

In late 2005 we will seek to employ a fellow with a Bioinformatics background to lead a Functional Genomics project. The fellow is expected to develop methods to analyse the global responses and regulation of different eukaryotic genomes to Growth Factor Stimulation and Stress Responses. Experience in Molecular Biology will facilitate rapid progress and integration in a multidisciplinary group with expertise in Biochemistry, Signal transduction, Transcriptional Regulation and Chromatin structure.

Qualified individuals must be

  • Non-Greek Nationals of EC member states, associated states (or having resided in the community for the last 5 years prior to the appointment) or third country
  • Must have not carried out normal activities in Greece for more than 12 months prior to the appointment

Our Centre is an equal opportunities employer and women in particular are encouraged to apply. Applications including a CV and the names of two referees should be addressed to Dr. E. Skoulakis.
